AIperion is a system that is capable of estimating the damage sustained by agricultural fields; identifying and detecting the boundaries of flooded and burned areas; and detecting the extent, impact, and duration of droughts based on extreme weather events or natural disasters. The technology is based on AI that is applied to Earth observation images. To identify and detect the boundaries of flooded and burned areas, the system will use data from the Sentinel-2 and Landsat-8 missions. Similarly, the application for estimating agricultural damage will use both Sentinel-2 and Landsat-8 images to derive vegetation indices. In this case, however, these images will be combined with meteorological data (SEVIRI) from the MSG mission in order to define the input for the deep learning algorithm used to estimate the potential damage.
